Suya

Suya is an African grilled appetizer originated in northern Nigeria and Niger. It is well-known in Ghana. It is usually served with palm juice.

Suya is generally made with skewered beef, ram, or chicken. Innards such as kidney, liver and tripe are also used.

The thinly sliced meat is marinated in various spices which include peanut cake, salt, vegetable oil and other flavourings, and then barbecued.

At alademarket, our Chef makes our meat snack from scratch. We dice the meat by hand. We season it in a rich Asiko Suya Mix. Then we cook them.  We believe it taste better this way.

They are delicious. They are spicy. They are impossible to eat without licking your fingers.  They are the perfect snack fr sharing.

It is served with dried pepper mixed with spices and sliced onions. Halal meat are used,in the northern parts of Nigeria.  It can be taken with Gari or Ogi.

There is no standard recipe for their production. The taste and flavour are normally from the ingredients.

Although originated from the Northern parts of Nigeria, it has penetrated the whole of Nigerian society. Suya is affordable for all and available everywhere. It has been called a unifying factor in Nigeria. Suya has become a Nigerian national dish with different regions claiming the superiority of their recipe and methods of preparation. But similar grilled meat recipes are common in many West African countries.

Suya is a street food.  It is sold in small stalls along local streets. You can use beef, boneless chicken, fish-filet, veal or goat meat

Ingredients

  • Cut meat (1.2 kg)
    •  Cut vegetables
    •  1 Cup Roasted Peanuts
    •  3 Tea spoons Cayenne Pepper
    •  1 Tea spoons of Paprika
    •  1 Tea spoon of Salt
    •  ½ Teaspoon of Ground Ginger
    •  ½ Tea spoon of Garlic Powder
    •  ½ Tea spoon of Onion Powder
    1 2 Maggi cubes
