Chin chin is a snack. It is a sweet and crunchy snack. Chin chin may also contain cowpeas. Most of all of us also add ground nutmeg for this extra flavour.
The Chin Chin dough is kneaded. Cut into small square pieces. And finally fry.
440 grams of flour
¾ cup sugar
1 ⁄ 2 tea spoon salt
1 ⁄ 4 tea spoon of baking powder
1-tea spoon grated nutmeg
1 tea spoon grated lime zest
4 table spoon of margarine/butter
1 large egg
and also ¾ cup milk
First of all, pour into a bowl, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, nutmeg and also lime zest.
Add the butter to the flour. Then mix butter and flour well. Add milk and also egg into the mixture. Keep mixing until a sticky dough ball is formed.
Then pour the dough on a hard greased table top. Knead the dough smoothly into an elastic dough. It must be evenly coloured and non sticky. Chin-chin can be cut into many different shapes and sizes.
Divide dough in half . Also on a floured board roll each half about ⅙ inches thick. Just like linguine or fettuccine. You can make it easy by using a pasta machine if you have one available. Make shapes as desired.
Also add half a litre of oil in a heated frying pan. Or in my all time favourite Dutch oven. Which gives you the perfect and ideal temperature of 375 degrees .
Fry in hot oil until they reach golden colour. Finally, remove from oil, drain, and serve. Store in an air tight container. Put Chin Chin is a air tight container. Therefore, it will last a month.
